What is the Best Cat Litter Box?

Comgrove Editors

Cats in a Box

If you’re a cat owner, then you know the pain of finding the right litter box. Some seem to leak litter everywhere, some hold a smell for far too long, and some just get totally shut down for mysterious cat reasons.

The right litter box can be a life changer. There are tons of options now that run the gamut from self-cleaning to high-sided. Some are a bit pricey and promise more than they can deliver. Others are simply durable and reliable without all the bells and whistles.

We tested out the best options on the market to make sure your cat has everything they need.

Nature’s Miracle High-Sided Litter Box:

Nature’s Miracle High-Sided Litter Box

The Nature’s Miracle High-Sided Litter Box is our number one pick because it simply gets the job done. It has high sides to prevent litter scatter, and made from durable material that wipes clean. We saw a huge reduction in scattered litter around the floor from the high sides, and it even seemed to tamp down the smell better than a standard litter box.

It’s just $21.55 on Amazon, and is included in Prime, so if you’re looking for a strong, reliable litter box, Nature’s Miracle is the best place to start.

Yangbaga Stainless Steel Litter Box:

The Yangbaga Stainless Steel Litter Box is an excellent option if you’re willing to pay a little more. It retails on Amazon for $40.99 and is similarly reliable to Nature’s Miracle.

The stainless steel looks very nice and cleans easily. The sides are a bit shorter, but it does the job and is a solid option to keep your cat and your nose happy.

PetSafe ScoopFree Self-Cleaning Cat Litterbox:

Our final choice is the PetSafe ScoopFree Self-Cleaning Cat Litterbox. It self-cleans for a few weeks at a time by cycling the litter through an internal scooper 20 minutes after it senses usage.

The technology is cool, but we’ve found some cats have some trouble adjusting to it. Most will be fine over time, but if your kitty is finicky, this may not be the best option. It’s also quite expensive at $199, but if you hate scooping, or your cat is home alone a lot, it may be a great option to keep things fresh and clean.
